Data retention

Last updated: 18 August 2026

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it, or as the law requires. When the purpose ends, we delete or de-identify it.

Identity, SAPS, and address files

Original files are deleted when a Care4SA reviewer marks them reviewed. We then keep only: upload/review timestamps and, for SAPS, the issue date on the page. We do not keep the PDF or photo, ID numbers, or the street address from the proof. If review is still pending, we keep the file only until that review (or until you delete your account).

While your account is open

Profile, listing, jobs, applications, messages, reviews, and references stay until you change or delete them, or you delete the account.

After account deletion

We delete your profile, listings, messages, jobs, photos, videos, and any remaining document files. We may keep payment references without your name for tax and accounting (typically up to five years — confirm with your accountant). A payment provider (Paystack, Ozow) keeps its own records under its policies.

Safety and disputes

If there is an open report, legal claim, or law-enforcement request, we may keep a limited record until that matter ends, even if a file was already deleted after review.

Inactive accounts

We may delete or anonymise accounts with no sign-in for 24 months after notice to the email on file, unless the law requires a longer hold.
