COMPANION-CARER NEEDED – HOUT BAY I am looking for a kind, experienced companion-carer for my 87-year-old father, living in our family home in Hout Bay. Dates: 4 October 2026 – 7 March 2027 Live-in Private studio Driver preferred: Valid SA driver's licence and confident, experienced driver. Insured automatic car provided for use with Dad. Remuneration: Dependent on experience and whether a driver. About the role This is primarily a companionship and support role, rather than personal care. Dad is physically well and independent with washing, dressing and toileting, but has memory loss and some cognitive decline following a small stroke and subsequent neurosurgery. He is also at risk of falls and using walking aids. He is still very capable and likes being involved in everyday life, but can be extremely forgetful and benefits from gentle structure, prompting and company. Duties include: • Medication prompting • Preparing simple meals and drinks • Light daily household support (housekeeper comes 1½ days a week) • Daily walks • Companionship and maintaining his routine • If a driver, taking Dad to appointments, coffee, lunch and outings About Dad He is kind, incredibly easy-going and easy company. He is very deaf, so communication can sometimes be challenging. He enjoys walks, coffee, lunches and scenic drives. He sleeps well at night and generally rests in the afternoons, allowing for some downtime during the day. We are looking preferably for a female companion-carer who is active, capable, confident and warm with a calm nature and experience with older people. We have four dogs and a cat, so you must be comfortable with animals. There is also a second carer available for ad-hoc cover.
